The 2008 “Parade of Lights”…
In Boston’s own Harbor
Parades
like these run every year around the country. They have inspired us to
have our own “Parade of Lights” here in Boston. Let's show
the country what Boston, the birthplace of America, can do to celebrate
a great cause and a boating tradition that is the oldest in America.
Please get involved and send this information to all your friends and
family to make this a HUGE event in 2008.

Boat Parade of Lights, Panama City, Florida
Boaters gather on December 8 at St. Andrews Marina in Panama City for
the start of their parade. Vessels float along St. Andrews Bay into the
City Marina, where they’re greeted by thousands of spectators
waiting downtown.( http://www.tripsmarter.com/panamacity/archives/events/paradeboats.htm)
Dana Port - Mari Gras Parade of Lights
Dana Point's parade attracts about 100 boats
and has turned into a full-on competition. “If you plan on throwing
beads at Santa, don't expect him to lift his shirt for you. "Absolutely
not. This is a family, community event," said Kim Till spokeswoman
for the Dana Point Harbor. "We're not that kind of Mardi Gras."
Dana Point's 33rd annual boat parade of lights,
this year with the theme "A Merry Mardi Gras," launches
tonight, the first parade to officially kick off the harbor parades found
in the county's three harbors.
Huntington Harbor - Parade of Lights
Each harbor's parade is different. Newport Beach's parade, which starts
next Wednesday, is the granddaddy of all boat parades, with more than
one million people who come to see it each year.
This year, Newport is celebrating 99 years.
Huntington Harbor is a hometown-feel event, with boats passing by homes
draped in elaborate designs.
"This year, everybody has a secret," said Lynn Hannegan, owner
of Besame Mucho. "We give up racing for a month to get the boat ready
for this." (Newport Beach http://www.christmasboatparade.com/

10th Annual Holiday Boat Parade to Light Up Miami Waterways
The Miami Outboard Club launches its 10th Annual Holiday Boat
Parade starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 22nd, according to the
Club commodore Gonzalo Planas. Nearly 100 boats are expected to take part
in the event, which will be presided over by Univision radio personality
Carlucho, this year's Grand Marshall.
The Holiday Boat Parade is an integral part of the City of Miami's Holiday
Magic celebration, which each year brings residents together for holiday
events such as the Orange Bowl, the Major's Toy Drive and the Neighborhood
Tree Lighting Ceremonies.
The Miami Outboard Club, founded in 1938 by a small group of Miami boating
enthusiasts, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with approximately
580 members and a fleet of 350 powerboats. The club's purpose is the same
today as it was nearly 70 years ago: furthering boating and all of its
allied activities, and fostering friendship and fellowship among members,
families, friends and the community at large. (MIAMI, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/)
The club's annual Holiday Boat Parade is made possible through the ongoing
cooperation of the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary, the City
of Miami Police Department and the City of Miami Beach Police
Department, and the generous support of individual and corporate sponsors.”

Lanier’s Boat Parade of Lights benefits Toys for Tots
“Organizers hope that this year’s Boat Parade of Lights will
set the gold standard for holiday boat parades in the Southeast. Now in
its second year, the Boat Parade of Lights is open to all boaters.
“This is a holiday standard on many lakes across the country,”
said Buddy Meeks, organizer of the Boat Parade of Lights. ‘Because
Lake Lanier is one of the largest and most-visited Corps of Engineers
lakes in the nation, we really should have a big turnout for our boat
parade and start a holiday tradition here in northeast Georgia.’”
